Annual Legacy Event

In recognition of Black History Month, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, Michigan will host their annual Legacy events in February 2019. Join us as we celebrate our scholarship recipients, community leaders, and business partners at this event. We promise to leave you enriched, enlightened and joyfully connected. This year’s dynamic keynote speaker is Chief of Houston METRO Police Department and 42nd President of the National Organization of Black Enforcement Executives, Vera Bumpers.

Although the Legacy Events originated as a small community gathering to celebrate National Black History Month, it has advanced communities in the following areas:

  • Awarded more than $110,000 to students in scholarships across the State of Michigan
  • Honored outstanding community leaders and business partners that gave back to their communities
  • Utilized Black-owned businesses and services to assist in making this signature event a continued success
  • Encouraged diversification from local communities to participate in the richness of Black History Month with the theme:
  •           “Black History is Everybody’s History”
